Simon Cowell is set to join the judges' panel in the upcoming Season 11 of “America’s Got Talent.”

Cowell, creator of the “Got Talent” format, is set to replace “America’s Got Talent” judge Howard Stern, according to E!News. NBC network made the announcement on Thursday, Oct. 22 that Cowell will act as judge and executive producer of the series. Robert Greenblatt, NBC Entertainment chairman said in a statement that that the network is “thrilled” to have Cowell join the reality competition show and “take his rightful place at the head of the judges' panel.”

"Simon knows this format better than anyone and he's been producing the show with us since the beginning…,” the NBC chairman stated. “We welcome him to the on-screen NBC family."

The “X-Factor” and former “American Idol” judge is also excited to join the latest Season of the NBC series.

"I am really thrilled to be joining America's Got Talent next season. What I love about this show is that it's open to absolutely anyone. America has some fantastic talent just waiting to be discovered, and I would like that talent to come to our show, including any dogs who can sing!" Cowell said in his statement.

It seems that NBC and Cowell already had previous discussions to join “America’s Got Talent." Cowell told Us Weekly magazine that he and NBC first talked about the judges panel slot for him five years ago. "We've been talking about it for a few years, funny enough, me and NBC," he said. "This year ... everything worked. So it was perfect."

The producer and music talent scout is known for being brutal in giving feedback to aspiring singers or artists. When Us Weekly asked whether he’s mellowed down in his approach now that he’s a father to 20 month old son, Eric, Cowell replied, "I'm not going to lie to people when I think they're hopeless, I just couldn't do that! But no, of course I'm not going to be rude for the sake of being rude. That would be ridiculous. I'll take it act by act."

Season 11 of “America’s Got Talent” is scheduled to return on the small screens in summer next year.
