When Benigno Aquino III was proclaimed Philippine president in 2010, Filipinos were speculating who would be the country's first lady since the son of a former president was still a bachelor at 50.

He was linked to a local town councilor, Korean broadcaster, Miss Universe contestant and now a 1980s sex symbol in inviting him for a date.

However, the catch for Baywatch actress and animal rights activist Pamela Anderson to date the 53-year-old never married president is that they would not discuss romantic stuff but the welfare of Mali, an Asian elephant that is caged in the Manila Zoo.

In a letter to Mr Aquino, the 45-year-old voluptuos actress whose stolen boat honeymoon video with husband Tommy Lee became a sex tape scandal, thanked him for issuing an order to move the beast to a sanctuary.

"In a world filled with political self-interest, your character and integrity are inspiring," she wrote.

However, such a dinner date would be done in Los Angeles, California, if the Philippine president happens to pass by the area. Malacanang Palace did not comment on the invitation from Ms Anderson.

The Philippine president's love life has been a source of speculation in the country's media. Since he was a senator, he has been linked to several prominent women, among them ABS-CBN news readers Korina Sanchez and Bernadette Sembrano, Valenzuela Councilor Shalani Soledad, stylist Liz Uy, Korean broadcaster Grace Lee and Miss Philippines 2009 Bianca Manalo.
