Prince Mohammed bin Fahd, who purchased Joan Rivers’ 5,100-square-foot floor at 1 East 62nd Street for $28 million, did not appear to be impressed with the celebrity's lush Versailles-inspired interiors. The Saudi Prince reportedly decided to conduct a gut renovation,

This means that the resulting apartment will bear zero resemblance to the palace that Rivers built, which already had five fireplaces, crystal lighting, a sweeping staircase and gilded walls, according to the New York Post . The "Fashion Police" host was known to enjoy making dramatic entrances in her luxurious staircase when she was still alive. The TV legend died on Sept. 4, 2014 at the age of 81.

Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd's team had moved into the unit a week after Ramadan, or the end of July, to start renovation work. The Prince is the son of the late King Fahd and previously served as the governor of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Rivers' French decor, although grand, was reportedly not what the Prince wanted, so he is erasing everything that its previous owner did.

Work is not yet completed but the new place is believed to have a more updated look. Prince Bin Fahd supposedly wants to have a private elevator installed and security 24/7.

The apartment is reportedly being prepared not for the Prince himself, but for his sons and their families when they are in town. It will likely be occupied only "three to four" months in the year, or even less. Melissa Rivers, Joan's daughter, inherited the New York apartment along with $75 million in cash when her mother died. The younger Rivers put the unit up for sale within months. The unit was built in 1903 by millionaire John Drexel and can accommodate around 125 people, according to Construction Week .

Rivers has mentioned before that her apartment is haunted by the late Mrs. Spencer, who was the original resident of the place before she moved in, according to Variety Portal. Rivers said that she didn't believe in the unexplainable or paranormal. But when she brought her dog to the apartment, it wouldn't go in.

"I went in the apartment, and it was a very hot August night, and it was freezing cold and the apartment was very, very cold, and there were pornographic writings and markings on the walls,” Rivers told Variety Portal .
