Samsung launches the first ever cinema LED display; 34-foot HDR screen is ready for commercial spotlight
Samsung has launched the world’s first commercial LED theatre display. The tech titan showed off the Cinema LED Screen at the Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul, South Korea. The HDR display comes with enhanced audio developed by the company’s own sound lab and Harman Professional Solutions.
Samsung’s new hardware measures close to 10.3 metres (33.8 feet) wide. It can put up with an assortment of theatre configurations with next-gen picture quality. The display is also optimised for high dynamic range viewing.
The Cinema LED Screen boasts of an “ultra sharp” 4K resolution (4,096 x 2,160). It also has peak brightness levels of 146 foot lamberts. The figure is almost ten 10 greater than what standard projector equipment can provide, which is 14 foot lamberts.
The Korean giant stated that its latest creation features “the brightest colours, deepest blacks and most pristine whites at a nearly infinite contrast ratio” thanks to the display’s advanced and distortion-free delivery. The system makes use of ultra-contrast and low tone greyscale settings to back its performance.
Samsung Audio Lab and Harman Professional Solutions are responsible for the cinematic hardware’s contemporary audio enhancement, which includes potent speakers flanking the screen, patented audio processing mechanics and JBL’s Sculpted Surround technology. According to its maker, the display offers consistent audio and visual performance under any setup. If it can adapt to an assortment of dark and ambient light settings, then it’s the ideal hardware for Samsung’s target markets, which include business companies, music corporations, sports leagues and the growing eSports scene.
“Through sharper and more realistic colours, complementary audio and an elevated presentation, our Cinema LED Screen makes viewers feel as if they are part of the picture,” according to Samsung Electronics President of Visual Display Business HS Kim. “We are excited to partner with Lotte Cinema to bring this technology to theatre-goers, and look forward to continuing to shape the cinema of the future.”
Samsung said that the Cinema LED Screen went through a string of laborious tests to make sure that the display is up to par with commercial usage and demand. The display is also the first product to fully comply with the theatre technology standards of the highly regarded Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI), a joint venture of major motion picture studios that was formed to establish a uniform and high level architecture for digital cinema systems. The fact that it attained the certification before being commercially released makes the feat even sweeter for the Korean company.
