Hard-wearing electronics specialist Getac has launched its biggest fully rugged tablet yet, the A140. The mobile device boasts of a 1,000-nit display, Intel Core i5 and i7 chips, dual hot-swappable batteries, and a plethora of security features. It’s optimised for locomotive, military and extreme use.

Getac’s new rugged tablet sports a standard 14-inch 1,000-nit sunlight readable HD display, but an optional 800-nit Full HD IPS panel is also available. Both displays incorporate the Taiwan-based company’s own LumiBond 2.0 touchscreen enhancement that utilises an optically unblemished resin to secure the display glass, the touch panel and LCD together. The result is a single panel that’s not only more durable, but also more readable.

For extreme on-the-go functionality, the A140 has support for touch/rain, glove and pen touch modes. A hard-tip stylus is likewise provided for added convenience in punishing conditions. An optional multipurpose hard handle is also available as a support stand and cradle for effective mobile working.

There’s a handful of Intel 6th gen Skylake Core i5 and i7 processors to choose from. The machine’s hot-swappable battery design is also great for continuous performance. Security features include start-up-monitoring TPM 2.0, an optional fingerprint scanner, SmartCard reader and Absolute DDS, which is essential in case the unit gets lost or stolen. The Windows tablet can withstand four-foot drops, rain, humidity, shakes, jolts and punishing temperatures (see detailed specs below).

“Whether public safety or field operations, the ability to quickly see more data on the screen is exactly what our customers have been looking for,” according to Getac’s corporate vice president and vice president of Global Sales Development Centre, Rowina Lee. “Advanced security features, incredibly fast performance and an awesome outdoor viewable screen make the A140 one of our most exciting launches.”

The Getac A140 starts at US$2,499 (AU$3,299). The fully rugged tablet comes with a three-year bumper-to-bumper warranty, including inadvertent damage and environmental exposure.
