In the coming months, both Samsung and Apple, two market leaders in the smartphone arena will be launching the next generations of their most coveted devices. Apple is slated to introduce two new iPhones, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus; whereas Samsung is ready with its Galaxy Note 5. By the end of September, there will be two new phablets on the market to choose from – Apple’s iPhone 6S Plus and Samsung’s Galaxy Note 5. Based on multiple rumours and speculations across the Web, the specs of iPhone 6S Plus and Galaxy Note 5 are compared.

Display

Apple is said to continue the same 5.5-inch, 1920X1080 Retina HD display with iPhone 6S Plus. The newest addition is touch sensitivity, called Force Touch, which was first seen on Apple Watch. There are also rumours that Apple may use the series 7000 aluminium, which is 60 per cent stronger than standard aluminium. There are predictions that an additional rose gold colour with Sapphire glass may come to the iPhone 6S Plus.

The Galaxy Note 5 may have a slightly larger screen, measuring in at 5.7 inches and could feature a 2K or 4K flat-screen Super AMOLED display with QHD resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels. The Sprint version of the Galaxy Note 5 will have an auto-ejectable stylus which is believed to have a clickable top.

Storage

The biggest debate on the Galaxy Note 5 was whether the device will come equipped with microSD card slot or not. A recently leaked user-agent profile Sprint’s official website revealed that the handset will come with a microSDXC card slot with an expandable memory up to 128 GB. The Note 5 will come in a 32 GB entry-level model.

Apple is said to stop its 16GB model and the base model of the next iPhone 6S Plus will start at 32GB of internal storage. Apple’s Taiwan-based manufacturing partner Foxconn revealed that the latest packaging for iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus do not have a “16GB” sticker. All iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will be starting at 32GB to 128GB.

Processor

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will be packed by 4GB of RAM configuration. The handset will be powered by Qualcomm’s new “9x35” Gobi modem. An octa-core Samsung’s Exynos 7422 chip, which is the company’s first all-in-one solution (as it will combine the CPU, GPU, RAM, storage and modem on a single chip) is expected to on board. Apple’s iPhone 6S Plus will be shipped with a powerful Apple A9 processor and M9 motion coprocessor, a faster LTE-modem faster LTE-modem with support for Qualcomm MDM9635M LTE Cat.6, NFC-chip NXP 66VP2 . The device will sport 2GB of RAM configuration.

Camera

An exceptional 16 MP rear-facing camera with optical stabilisation along with a good 5 MP front-facing snapper for selfies and video chat will also be part of the Galaxy Note 5. Apple’s next iPhone is expected to boast a significant jump in camera technology and may feature a 12-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and 4K video recording and 240 FPS slow motion.

Operating system

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will come with pre-loaded Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with a likely upgrade to Android M, Google’s latest version of its Android operating system. The iPhone 6S Plus will likely ship with Apple`s newly announced iOS 9 operating system.

Release date

After much anticipation few days back it was almost confirmed that the new Galaxy Note 5 is scheduled to be released on Aug. 1 in New York, much ahead of IFA where usually the company updates its Galaxy Note line. According to Business Korea, one of the main reasons behind this is the upcoming release of Apple’s iPhone 6S and 6S Plus in September. As reported by Forbes, Apple’s flagship duos are expected to be launched on Sep. 18, when pre-orders will begin.
