The Galaxy Note 4 was launched on Sept 3 and the Galaxy S5 came out in April this year. Let's pit both the flagship smartphones from the same manufacturer to know which one is better:

Design

The Galaxy Note 4 is a phablet which is huge in size as it measures 153.5 x 78.6mm and its thickness is 8.5mm. Keeping it in your pocket may not be that easy. The device is not resistant to water. A metal frame running on the edges and faux leather on the rear gives a premium appeal to the Galaxy Note 4.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 measures 142 x 72.5mm and its thickness is 8.1mm. So, the Galaxy S5 is smaller and thinner than Note 4. The rear sports a soft matte plastic with perforated design. Moreover, since the device is IP67 certified, it won't get water damaged even if it remains immersed in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.

Display

One of the most notable features of Galaxy Note 4 is the 5.7inch Super AMOLED screen supporting a quad HD resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels along with a pixel count of 515ppi. The 5.1inch Super AMOLED of Galaxy S5 supports a full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It offers a pixel density of 432ppi.

In a practical sense, it is difficult to distinguish between quad HD and full HD displays through by normal viewing angle. However, it will all boil down to the size of the screen when you want to choose one between these two. Also, quad HD handsets come with an expensive price tag.

Processor and RAM

The Galaxy Note 4 is powered with the latest Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor that clocks at 2.5GHz. It is built for supporting up to 4K display resolution and 4G LTE Advanced connectivity. The Snapdragon 805 is superior to the Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor sitting inside the Galaxy S5 which runs at 2.5GHz.

The Galaxy Note 4 comes with 3GB RAM, whereas the Galaxy S5 has 2GB RAM. AnTuTu benchmark tests carried out before the launching of Note 4 reveal that the Exynos 5433 octa-processor variant is even more powerful than its Snapdragon variant.

Storage

Galaxy Note 4's inbuilt storage is 32GB and the microSD slot can support up to 64GB. Well, the Galaxy S5 has an upper edge in this segment as the device is available two storage variants of 16GB and 32GB. On Galaxy S5, users can add up to 128GB of microSD on external storage. The S5 also supports on the USB OTG.

Camera

The 16MP shooter on Galaxy Note 4 is equipped with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and LED flash. The Galaxy Note 4 is said to be sporting the very same rear camera that is present on the Samsung Galaxy S5. Both the camera can shoot 2160p quality video.

The 3.7MP camera on Note 4 is designed for snapping selfies. The f/1.9 aperture will allow the user to shoot at a wide angle of 90 or 120 degrees. The Galaxy S5 has a 2MP shooter but snapped images lack detail and appear grainy.

Battery

The Galaxy Note 4 is packed with a 3220mAh battery that is equipped with fast charging technology. It takes only 30 minutes to fill up 50 percent of the battery juice. Note 4's larger battery surpasses the 2800mAh battery of Galaxy S5.

The Galaxy Note 4 comes with a new improved professional stylus. The Galaxy S5 does not feature a stylus. Both the handsets feature Android v4.4.4 KitKat and plenty of sensors like fingerprint scanner, proximity, gesture, and heart rate. The SpO2 and the UV sensors are the two sensors that can be found exclusively on the Galaxy Note 4.
