British singer Sam Smith has dropped major hint that he is recording a song for the next James Bond movie titled, “Spectre.” The “Lay Me Down” singer posted a picture on his Instagram account where he is seen wearing a 007 themed ring.

The ring is question shows an octopus symbol from the movie's terrorist organization Spectre. The villainous organization was shown in many of the early James Bond films and will return for the 2015 film. The octopus logo has also been featured in various promotional materials for “Spectre.”

The picture appears to have delighted Smith's fan base as they could not contain their excitement over the singer's hint of doing a James Bond theme song.

“I sense a James Bond Theme song coming on,” wrote one fan with Instagram handle laureneofoz.

“If your gonna do the theme for Spectre. I'm going to scream and maybe beg my mom to see it myself more than once,” wrote another fan named stardropsylveon.

The singer has not confirmed the news officially. Earlier this year, Smith had actually denied that he was involved in the “Spectre” theme song saying no one has approached him yet.

“People seem to think I’m doing it but I have no idea what’s going on. I’m being deadly serious. I think I would know by now,” the London native told Capital FM in July.

Smith, 23, also told the radio channel that singer Ellie Goulding might be recording the theme song for the movie. The British songstress is yet to confirm the news but she added fuel to the speculations when she posted a picture of her leaving the Abbey Road studios where Adele recorded the theme song of last Bond movie “Skyfall” in 2012.

“Spectre” hits Australian cinemas on Nov. 6, this year.

Update: Smith has now confirmed on Twitter that he is indeed recording theme song for "Spectre" called "Writing's On The Wall." "This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song," Smith wrote on Twitter.
