Rape charges are in itself horrible crimes, but when the victim is a young child, the more revolting it is in the eyes of the law and society. On Tuesday, a 27-year-old Perth woman was scheduled to appear before the Mandurah Magistrate’s Court.

She is charged with sexual penetration of a child under 13 years old, reports Tenplay. The woman is also being accused of threatening to hurt, endanger or harm her victim who is known to the woman.

The incident allegedly took place between October and November 2015 when the accused reportedly sexually assaulted the nine-year-old boy, reports Perth Now.

The same court will hear another case also on Tuesday, with a 66-year-old man from Halls Head charged with child exploitation offences. He is also accused of possession of child exploitation material and using a carriage service to distribute child exploitation material.

In July, detectives from the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team secured a search warrant and seized from the man a computer and electronic storage devices.

According to Pandora’s Project, a support and resources website for survivors or rape and sexual assault, most of research data on child rape involve female victims. Citing a 1999 study, it states 85 women in 1,000 were raped at least once as a minor.

The average age when the first rape occurred was 10.8 years old. About 21.5 percent of the rapes happen between birth and 7 years old, 38.3 percent between 7 and 12 years old, and 40.2 percent between 13 and 17 years old.

Child rape victims, whether male or female, are at higher risk of developing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. They could be chronically frightened of things that remind them of childhood rape and experience nightmares or flashbacks.
