Women’s virginity have long been on the auctioning block, but before they were often female slaves or captives of war sold to the highest bidder by their conquerors. However, in the era of the internet, it is the virgin woman herself who auctions her purity at record-high prices.

The reasons why women sell their virginity varies, but in the case of 20-year-old Katherine Stone of Washington, it is for the sake of her family. In May 2014, Elizabeth Raines, a 28-year-old medical student auctioned her virginity for $800,000 but she eventually decided not to have sex and instead focus on her education.

For the right price, Stone is willing to have sex with a stranger so their family home in Seattle, gutted by a fire in 2014, could be rebuilt. Financial woes have forced the Stone family to stay on the burnt property, which was uninsured prior to the fire, Inside Edition reports.

Stone saw a Facebook advertisement of other women selling their virginity. She contacted Dennis Hof, owner of the Moonlite Bunny Ranch near Carson City, who agreed to help with the auction which would benefit him also as he gets half of the bid. Hof owns another ranch, The Love Ranch, where former NBA star Lamar Odom overdosed with a deadly combination of party drugs and erectile dysfunction pills.

“It is her choice. I don’t think it is a good idea for a girl to drink six tequilas and lose her virginity on the bathroom floor in a frat house….If she wants to [sell] it, I think that’s great,” Independent quotes Hof.

If Hof could be sympathetic to Stone’s cause, it could be because his $2 million mansion was razed to the ground on Oct 14. In agreeing to help Stone, Hof is not only handling the auction, he has allowed Stone to work in one of his brothels, although she has kept intact her virginity since her contract with Hof is she would offer men only non-intercourse services such as small parties and massage parties.

The highest bid, so far, is $400,000. But Stone says it would not be to a random guy to whom she would surrender her virginity but to a man with whom she would feel a connection. In that way, “the experience can be special for both of us. It’s really not just about the money,” she explains.

Even after she loses her virginity and build her family a new house, Stone plans to work for Hof’s brothel for five more years while going to law school. Her decision, however, was criticised by a Christian woman who accuses Stone of lacking self-respect.
