The company OnePlus, founded only in 2013, is based out of Shenzhen, China. Known for the tag line "never settle," this company has broken many norms in the tech industry by building an impressive smartphone OnePlus One with killer configurations at a nominal price. The handset was well-received and was even called as "flagship killer" by many tech gurus. By garnering appreciation and positive reviews from around the world, OnePlus is taking the next obvious step of building OnePlus Two smartphone.

Even with spectacular reviews, the company did make a huge mistake pertaining to its purchase model. OnePlus employed the never-exciting "reservation or invitation-only model." This means, interested buyers with an invitation can only order the OnePlus One handset. As expected, the device started losing interest among the tech-savvy crowd. But then, the lucky ones who were able to get the device via its in-famous reservation system certainly got a good deal, with half the price of any other flagship smartphone from different OEMs, says Phone Arena.

It is worth noting that, the Android/Cyanogen-powered OnePlus One retails in India for just 21,999 INR, which roughly translates to US$355, AU$423 and 227 GBP, according to NDTV. But now, the entire focus has shifted to the official confirmation on the next-generation OnePlus handset from OnePlus' director Carl Pei. The apparent OnePlus Two release date is slated to be some time in the mid of 2015.

According to Carl, "We are planning to announce the OnePlus Two in Q2 or Q3 next year. So it is one year after this phone [OnePlus One]." On the other hand, Carl also acknowledged that the target markets for the OnePlus One's successor will be emerging market like India.

When the news about OnePlus Two started making rounds several weeks back, an unnamed source reportedly told Business Insider that the OnePlus Two will be a surprise package, especially from the hardware end. Although, none of the specifications are out yet, rumour has it that, the OnePlus Two will be smaller in size and will come packed with relatively less capable specifications than its predecessor.

When asked about the in-famous invitation-only model, Carl gave a convincing reply to NDTV by saying, "It helps us to control the risk we are subject to." "We have no margins, our partners have no margins, so if we make too much, it'll be a loss-loss situation. We have to be sure that everything we make can be sold, and in the end, that gives users more choice as well, so it's in everyone's best interest," he added further.
