Konami has stated that “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” will not give PC users the option to pre-load the game ahead of its launch next month. The news confused Steam users who are used to pre-loading their PC games. It continues to bewilder them even more as it was revealed that consoles would have the option to pre-load the game in time for its release.

What makes the lack of pre-load even more confusing is the fact that there seems to be no concrete reason as to why the PC version doesn’t have the option. According to Destructoid, there is no “specific” reason, even if pre-loading games is a standard practice amongs PC gamers. There’s also no particular reason that the console versions can pre-load the game through digital download, but the option is there.

IGN confirmed that PC users can start downloading the game immediately once it’s available at midnight on Sept. 1. This seems to be the best option right now for those who want to play the game as early as possible, though console gamers won’t have to worry about this.

Though the news could be considered disappointing, it shouldn’t detract gamers from the fact that “Metal Gear Solid V” will be hitting retail and digital stores soon. The game was originally supposed to come out for consoles first then get a PC release a few weeks after, but Konami has since decided to release all the versions of the game at the same time.

“Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain” will be historic for many reasons, one of them being that this may be the last Konami game made by Hideo Kojima. There have been many reports about the falling out between Kojima and Konami, especially since the creator’s name was removed from the game’s cover art. The fallout between Konami and Kojima also led to the cancellation of “Silent Hills” with Guilermo del Toro.

“The Phantom Pain” will be available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC once it launches on Sept. 1. Konami has confirmed that more “Metal Gear” games will be made, without help from Kojima.
