Since “Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker” for the PSP has been released, the series has taken a liking to giving focus on Mother Base, the home of Snake and his allies. In the upcoming “Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain,” the Mother Base will be a bigger part of the game with new features.

Mother Base will make a return in The Phantom Pain but this time, it will be more than just a series of menus as it will be a huge and fully explorable area. Upon beginning the game, Mother Base will just be an oil rig, similar to Peace Walker, it will be upgradable and expandable further into the game. It will function for a whole lot of things for Snake including, a training ground, a resting place after missions, and it is also a place wherein Snake can interact with the members of his team.

In an exclusive gameplay demo of the game with at E3 seen here at Gematsu, Konami said that Mother Base will be customisable. Players have the freedom to expand and customise Mother Base, with the option to focus on developing things like defences and research.

Konami added that players can see any items they’ve used Fulton balloon recovery system on at Mother Base. Nearly everything in Phantom Pain can be obtained, from weapons to wildlife. This basically means that each player can have is own Mother Base that looks different from the other players.

In an exclusive Q&A session with Gamespot via Twitter, the developer opened up about microtransactions and other new details about the game. According to the Konami, playing online requires a membership to Playstation Plus or Xbox Live. They added that other microtransactions in the game include speeding up the development process for Mother Base, but that’s all as progress within the game requires just hours and hours of grinding.

With Phantom Pain’s release just around the corner, players are sure to be even more excited with the new information from Konami. The developer said that there will be more in store at Mother Base for players but it’ll be up to them to fully explore the base of explorations on the game’s release.
