Australian actress Nicole Kidman has clarified her remarks that Americans should support President-elect Donald Trump. She said her comment is simply a statement of her belief in democracy and she has no intention to endorse America’s new president.

The “Moulin Rouge” star said in an interview with Access Hollywood that her comments about Trump were misconstrued. She clarified that she was only trying to stress that she believes in democracy, as well as the American Constitution. “It was that simple,” she said.

The actress insisted that she is done expressing her thoughts on the topic and refused to provide more explanations. “I'm out of it now. That's what I said and it's that simple,” she said.

Kidman’s latest political comment sparked both criticism and praise after it was aired by the BBC last week. The Oscar winner has pointed to the fact that Trump is now elected and Americans, as a country, need to “support whoever is the president, because that's what the country is based on.”

Some netizens praised Kidman for displaying common sense. “So not every #Hollywood #star is a moron! Bravo to #NicoleKidman. Don't care about her politics-she just displayed common sense,” Twitter user named Jeff Shawan wrote. Another Twitter user named Eddie said it is time to add Kidman on the boycott list.

Kidman has previously confessed that she is usually reserved in making political comments, and that she is more committed to women’s issues. “I’m always reticent to start commenting politically, I’ve never done it in terms of America or Australia,” she said.

The 49-year-old actress was born in Hawaii to Australian parents and was raised in the land down under. She holds dual US/Australian citizenship. Kidman is currently residing with her family in Nashville, Tennessee with her husband, Keith Urban and their two children.
