When it comes to smartphones with rotating/swivelling camera units, there is no precedence in the West. Asia, on the other hand, has seen some of them gaining traction from time to time. A significant example would be the Oppo series of phones. The Oppo N3 is one such smartphone with an improved swivelling camera on the top of the display. Notably, the Oppo N3 is an Android-based smartphone. Meanwhile, there is no Windows Phone device with such a camera available in the market. But then a brand new Windows Phone Concept running on Microsoft's Windows Phone OS has cropped up with a rotating camera unit.

The handset in focus is very thoughtfully named "Spinner." The website Phone Designer has created the design of this concept smartphone, which runs on Windows Phone. So far, the handsets with rotating camera units have always been located on the centre of the top of the display. However, the Spinner smartphone with Windows Phone OS has its rotating camera located on the upper right corner of the handset. Needless to say, the entire device looks one-of-a-kind, according to Phone Arena.

Apart from the unique camera unit, the concept handset flaunts an exterior made of the much-loved aluminium and plastic combination, which is again new to Windows Phones. According to the concept render, the Spinner smartphone features a modest 4.7-inch display. However, the resolution is unknown at this point. Moreover, the device is only 7 mm thick and hence it is easily comparable to the Apple iPhone 6 with the same 4.7-inch display and thickness.

Going by the concept images, the first look of the Spinner handset shows a potential device for Microsoft. Nonetheless, the probability of this concept render coming true is debatable. But then, interested readers can check out the Spinner smartphone render from Phone Arena.

Speaking of the possibility of a radical new design, Microsoft currently holds 3 percent market share in the mobile devices category. With a not-so-impressive share, Microsoft is still reportedly investing on the Lumia brand, once created by Nokia. On that note, the recent release is the wallet-friendly Microsoft Lumia 535 and according to reports, many more Lumia handsets are in the works. Nevertheless, most of the upcoming devices are upgraded versions of the existing phone with low-price margin. Plus, none of them is expected to flaunt a radical design change of any kind, opines Softpedia.

So what do you think of this concept design? Will Microsoft give heed to a virtual new design, leaving its current working-formula? Or do you think Microsoft needs to re-invent itself? Feel free to leave a comment.
