Various acts of violence loom large over at Ramsay Street on the upcoming episode of “Neighbours.” On Wednesday, Mark Brennan (Scott McGregor) zeroes in on Gary Canning (Damien Richardson) as the prime suspect for physically attacking Cooper Knights (Charlie Hannaford). However, Gary gets reprieved when Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) unexpectedly steps in to defend him.

Meanwhile, Elly Conway’s (Jodi Anasta) love games are far from over. Determined to reel back in Ned (Ben Hall), she tries to catch his attention using a neighbourhood hunk. Unfortunately, she also earns the ire of another brunette beauty, who doesn’t seem to appreciate Elly’s mischievous ways. Other “Neighbours” cast members who will also appear on the Aug.24 episode include Xanthe Canning (Lilly Van Der Meer), Ben Ian Kirk (Felix Mallard), Piper Willis (Mavournee Hazel), Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne), Karl (Alan Fletcher), Sheila Canning (Colette Mann), Tyler Brennan (Travis Burns) and Paige Smith (Olympia Valance).

“Neighbours” posted a sneak peek of Wednesday’s episode on its Facebook page. In the trailer, Mark questions Ben about Cooper’s attack. Ben reveals that according to Piper, Gary went to their school the other day, looking for Cooper. Digital Spy reports that Gary becomes the prime suspect as he lacks a clear alibi during the time Cooper was assaulted. Paul saves him from being imprisoned again by vouching for Gary’s whereabouts. As a result, Gary owes Paul now more than ever.

Spoilers also hint that a serious confrontation happens between Elly and Paige. Distraught that Ned and Madison had a good time during their date, Elly decides to make Ned jealous and uses Tyler. This doesn’t sit well with Paige, and she doesn’t waste time lashing at Elly.

“Neighbours” recap

On Tuesday, Terese came up with a great idea to raise the Lassiters’ revenue – hire musical acts for live entertainment. She tasked Madison to find the artists to perfom. At The Waterhole, Madison consulted with Aaron and Ned about her assignment. Paul overheard their conversation and smiled at a thought. Later, Madison complained to Terese that she’s having a difficult time looking for their first gig – it seemed everyone seemed to be committed elsewhere. Terese figured out it was Paul who’s sabotaging their project, and headed to the motel to confront him. As the two argued, sexual tension still sparked between them. Fortunately for Terese and Madison, Aaron came through and suggested they get Rhonda Riley. Apparently, he knows her when he was working as a backup dancer.

Elly arrived at The Waterhole and spotted Ned working at the bar. She said she’s willing to go out with him again and he made some suggestions. However, Elly turned down his recommendations, which she told Aaron was part of her hard-to-get ploy. Aaron told her she might be pushing it too far – Ned’s a hot guy and he won’t stand up for games like that. It seemed Aaron was right. When Elly told Ned that she’s available for dinner after all, he said he already made plans. Madison showed up, and apparently, he was Ned’s new date.

Meanwhile, Susan learned about what happened to Xanthe and promised that she will report it to the proper authorities. Both Susan and Elly showed their 100 per cent support for Xanthe. Later, Cooper’s mum, Maureen, showed up at the Canning’s house to “resolve the unfortunate situation.” She had a totally different version of the story and insisted that her son is innocent. Gary became further incensed when Maureen said she wants Xanthe to apologise and tell the truth. Sheila also turned raging mad when Maureen dragged Gary’s criminal record in the conversation. Gary threatened Cooper, after which Sheila kicked Maureen out of their house.

At school, everyone had heard about Xanthe and Cooper and vicious rumours had been circulating. As Piper cited one nasty thing said about Xanthe, Elly came in at the right moment and accused her of bad behaviour. As a result, Piper got detention… again. She complained to Brad about Elly’s deliberate attempts to get her into trouble, but he brushed off her theories. Later, Piper ran into Gary, who was looking for Cooper. Gary asked for his address, which Piper hesitantly gave.

Susan tried to get more information about Xanthe’s case from Ben. He told that Cooper gave him the same story – it was Xanthe who made a move to spite Ben for going out with Alison. Ben also admitted to Susan that Xanthe caught him and Alison at the hotel room alone and while nothing happened, Xanthe assumed the worst. Ben said that while Xanthe can be emotional, she’ll never make up a story.

Maureen, who works at the hospital with Karl, was busy digging up dirt about Xanthe and her family. She told Karl that she heard Xanthe always wants to be the centre of attention, and that she and Ben had stolen money before. She also related about Gary’s checkered past and said that she hopes Susan knows who she’s dealing with. This irritated Karl, who claimed that her wife would stand up for what’s right and resolve the matter appropriately.

Susan went over to the Canning’s and warned them that once the police gets involved, Xanthe’s past demeanors might be brought up, which might discredit her story. Xanthe insisted that she’s not the one in the wrong and despite Cooper’s good record at school, it doesn’t mean he’s right. When Susan left, Sheila told Gary that he can’t touch Cooper and that violence won’t help Xanthe’s case. Later, Ben went over to assure Xanthe that he’s on her side. However, Xanthe was worried that nobody’s going to believe her, given her and her family’s background. Ben couldn’t bear the thought that Cooper might actually get away with assaulting Xanthe.

Later, Maureen informed Karl that an ambulance brought Cooper to the emergency room. It appeared someone physically attacked Cooper, leaving him unconscious and bleeding with a head wound. Maureen suspected Gary was the one who did it.
