Microsoft recently released the mid-range Lumia 640 and the bigger sibling Lumia 640 XL. But then, a high-end or flagship handset from the tech giant is pending for a while now. However, the recent news is that, Microsoft is reportedly gearing up to release Lumia 940 as a replacement for the well-received 2014 model Lumia 930. The handset is expected to pack a punch with high-end specifications and killer hardware/software performance. Readers who are interested in the upcoming Microsoft Lumia 940 or the original Lumia 930 should check out this early specification, and features comparison.

Lumia 940 vs. Lumia 930: Display And Design

According to Concept Phones, the new Lumia 940 will reportedly feature a solid 5.0-inch display bundled with a killer Quad HD screen resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. Meanwhile, the predecessor Lumia 930 comes with the same 5.0-inch AMOLED display but the screen resolution is only 1,080 x 1,920 pixels. This means, the pixel densities of Lumia 930 and Lumia 940 stand at 441 ppi and 587 ppi, respectively. As a rule of thumb, the higher the pixel density, the screen will be sharper and clearer. Plus, the upcoming device will apparently come with Gorilla Glass 4 protection, while the predecessor settles for Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

When it comes to the exterior design, CNet says, the Lumia 930 features bright and vivid colours, which is synonymous to many Lumia handsets released so far. Moreover, the back panel of the device is reportedly made of polycarbonate/plastic material that blends seamlessly with the metal frame running through the corners of the handset. When it comes to the Lumia 940, the handset will apparently flaunt a new design language and therefore, the successor will reportedly feature a bezel-free display and aluminium chassis along with polycarbonate enclosure, says Concept Phones.

Lumia 940 vs. Lumia 930: Under The Hood

The Lumia 930 is powered by a good quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800) processor, clocked at 2.2 GHz. On the other hand, the Lumia 940 is expected to be powered by a new Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, clocked at 2.7 GHz, notes VC Post. While the predecessor comes backed by 2 GB of RAM configuration, the Lumia 940 will apparently house a 3 GB unit.

When it comes to memory configuration, the Lumia 930 comes equipped with 32 GB of internal storage, whereas the Lumia 940 will reportedly come with 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB storage choices. Notably, the predecessor does not come with microSD card support and therefore, looking at the 128 GB internal storage option, it is safe to assume that, expandable storage may not be part of the Lumia 940. On the software end, the Lumia 930 runs on Windows Phone 8.1 OS, while the Lumia 940 is expected to run on the upcoming Windows 10, notes Concept Phones.

Lumia 940 vs. Lumia 930: Camera

Apparently, the upcoming Microsoft Lumia 940 specifications also include a mind-blowing 50 MP rear-facing camera unit. In comparison, the last Lumia handset to come with such an outrageous sensor was Lumia 1020 with 41 MP PureView unit. In any case, VC Post notes that, several insider sources are quite sceptical about the 50 MP sensor and that, the final product could come with a more realistic unit with MixView camera. In addition, the Lumia 940 will apparently sport a gracious 5 MP front facing camera for selfies.

On the other hand, the Lumia 930 features a 20 MP PureView rear-facing camera unit with Carl Zeiss optics, OIS support and dual-LED flash. Plus, there is also a 1.2 MP front-facing shooter. Nonetheless, readers should note that, Microsoft has not confirmed the Lumia 940 specifications and features thus far.
