Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei is set to play Peter Parker’s aunt in the still untitled “Spider-Man” reboot slated to be released on July 28, 2017 and a lesbian character in “Empire” season 2, which will premiere on Sept. 23.

Sony and Marvel have yet to comment on the casting of the next installment of the “Spider-Man” film franchise, although sources told Variety that the studios already handpicked Tomei to play Aunt May, the one who raised the web-slinging superhero to be played by Tom Holland.

No other details about the 2017 “Spider-Man” cast have been revealed aside from Holland and Tomei being part of it. “Cop Car” director Jon Watts has been tapped to helm the film, and Marvel and Sony are still looking for the writer who will join him in writing the screenplay based on the characters created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

The 2017 “Spider-Man” reboot will be a new venture for Tomei as she is not known for superhero films but for drama films, such as “The Ides of March” and “The Wrestler,” and romantic comedies including “My Cousin Vinny,” which earned her an Oscar trophy.

Represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment, Tomei is also set to play a recurring role in Fox’s hit series “Empire” season 2. She is playing the role of Mimi Whiteman, a billionaire on the Forbes list who loves beautiful women, fashion and hip hop, Entertainment Weekly has reported.

Tomei's character will become involved in the drama surrounding Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson), Hakeem Lyon (Bryshere Y. Gray), Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett), Andre Lyon (Trai Byers) and Rhonda Lyon (Kaitlin Doubleday).

Meanwhile, Tomei is also set to appear in Judd Apatow’s “Trainwreck,” which is slated to premiere on July 17. The comedy film stars Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, John Cena, Brie Larson, Ryan Farrell, Randall Park, Tilda Swinton, Vanessa Bayer, Dave Attell, Ezra Miller and Evan Brinkman, among others.
