“Empire” season 2 spoilers have been revealed by Taraji P. Henson, who will reprise her role Cookie Lyon, and Adam Rodriguez, who is set to play a new character named Laz Delgado, before the hit Fox series returns for a sophomore season on Sept. 23.

In a recent interview with Delaware Online, Henson gave fans some hints about what they should expect from the second season. She said that the Lyons are going to deal with a lot of the past, which she said is something that she requested.

“What happened with Cookie in the 17 years she was locked away from her family?” Henson explained adding that “Empire” season will give the viewers a glance at how Lucious became the person that he is, which some consider as a “monster.”

The 2015 Critics’ Choice TV Awards Best Actress in a Drama Series awardee explained that “people are the way they are because of their circumstances” so in “Empire” season 2, viewers will be given a better understanding of how the characters became who they are.

In addition, Henson discussed how “Empire” became successful and how the Fox series maintained its viewership throughout its first season. While she said that there is no special formula or magic trick, she said viewers will watch if they are given good content.

For Henson, the first season of “Empire” effectively dealt with very diverse subject matter that made the audience think and combined incredible writers with an incredible cast, which includes Terrence Howard, Bryshere Y. Gray, Jussie Smollett and Trai Bryers, among others.

As a new member of the “Empire” season 2 cast, Rodriguez has also spoken about his role, a love interest for Henson’s character Cookie, as well as Howard’s character Lucious, a music mogul in prison.

In an interview with “Access Hollywood Live,” Rodriguez said Howard’s character should have done a better job treating Henson’s character “like the wonderful woman that she is” as his character Laz Delgado has a clear idea on how to do that.

This is not the first time Henson and Rodriguez are playing lovers. In 2009, they co-starred as lovers Sandino and April in the comedy drama “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” with Tyler Perry, who also wrote and directed the film.
