Current English Premier League second-placer Liverpool has reiterated its desire to sign Barcelona right-back Martin Montoya by sending out managing director Ian Ayre to Spain to discuss a possible deal.

The Reds are having problems at the back in the ongoing 2013/14 campaign, with Jose Enrique out after recently undergoing a knee surgery and on-loan player Aly Cissokho failing to impress, while Glen Johnson is entering the final 18 months of his contract.

Montoya's tie with the Blaugrana is about to be severed in June, and a switch in January is highly probable.

The Spanish international has not been assured of an extension at the Camp Nou as Dani Alves has been and is still the first-choice in occupying the right side of the back line.

Other clubs like Inter Milan, Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen, and Dortmund have also inquired into the possibility of snatching the 22-year-old, but Liverpool are apparently the frontrunners.
