LG's upcoming new flagship smartphone, the LG G5, will house the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, confirmed Qualcomm on its official Twitter account.

The chipmaker's tweet confirmed previous rumours. LG G5 will indeed sport the high-end and powerful Snapdragon 820 SoC, as spotted by GSM Arena.

LG has already confirmed the release date of G5. The smartphone will be unveiled on Feb. 21, a day before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 kicks-off.

Last week, LG USA Mobile posted another teaser on Twitter, indicating 'Always On' display mode. However, the G5's ‘Always On’ display will reportedly be a full-screen version of the LG V10's second screen, according to unconfirmed reports.

Other rumoured LG G5 specs include 5.6-inch QHD display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of inbuilt storage and a 20-megapixel rear camera sensor from Sony. The main camera sensor will reportedly sport an Iris Eye Recognition scanner for authentication.

The successor to the popular LG G4, the LG G5 is believed to run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. The smartphone will reportedly come with support for LG G Pay.

Last year, while announcing its new Snapdragon 820 processor, Qualcomm mentioned that the devices released in the "first half of 2016" will be powered by the chipset.

The Snapdragon 820 is built with the 14-nanometer FinFET processing tech which will make the chipset run faster than the Snapdragon 810. The company also claims that the chipset have 2x performance and efficiency when compared to the Snapdragon 810 processor.

A recently leaked launch presentation of the Xiaomi Mi5 seems to have confirmed that the smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. The same chipset is also slated to power the US variant of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
