Quite interestingly, the tag line of LG G3 is "Simple is the new smart." With LG G3, the South Korean conglomerate has upped the bar for other smartphone manufacturers with its killer features and solid under the hood performance. However, the latest news is that LG G3 Prime (aka LG G3 Cat. 6) is in the offing in Korea.

Even though there is no word from LG on the alleged handset, the LG G3 Prime release date is expected to be in July, according to Phone Arena. Also, the G3 Prime is rumoured to come with LTE-A support. It is worth noting that, the counterpart Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A, which is a distant cousin of 2014 flagship Galaxy S5, comes with LTE-A support along with the stunning Quad HD resolution, whereas the Galaxy S5 comes with only a Full HD resolution. Moreover, Samsung's Galaxy S5 LTE-A is available only in Asian markets.

In addition, the Galaxy S5 LTE-A is powered by a super-charged Snapdragon 805 processor, while the Galaxy S5 is powered by a relatively inferior Snapdragon 801 processor. But the overall look and feel of Galaxy S5 LTE-A is similar to the Galaxy S5.

In comparison, the LG G3 already comes with a whopping 5.5-inch Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) display hence the upgrade to G3 in the form of G3 Prime could only be with LTE-A support, in addition to a killer Snapdragon 805 processor.

Interestingly, the Korean version of LG G3 Prime, also referred locally as, the "LG G3 Cat. 6" is available for pre-order in South Korea. For those unfamiliar with the terminology "Cat. 6", it is a network cabling terminology and a short form for "Category 6."Also, it is a standardized cable for Gigabit Ethernet and other network physical layers.

When it comes to mobile networking, "Cat. 6" refers to an LTE category that can provide up to 300 Mbps download speed range. Apparently, 300 Mbps is the speed the new LTE-A networks support in Korea, elucidates Phone Arena.

It is worth noting that, Category 6 LTE that delivers 300 Mbps speed is not supported by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor seen in LG G3, Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2. Consequently, the LG G3 Prime will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset.

Therefore, the officially unannounced LG G3 Prime with the reported 805 processor can soon be expected to make a landfall globally.
