With Donna Summer's songs that anyone can dance to, it was easy for the late singer to become an icon for the LGBT community. Hence, it started a controversy when she allegedly made negative remarks about the gay community during a concert performance meant for the victims of AIDS/HIV.

Donna Summer was quoted to have said "It was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" during the performance held in Atlantic City. As per The Advocate, she was also noted to have said that "...AIDS is the result of your sins."

The Apology Letter Emerges

After passing away at age 63 just last month, a letter of apology written by Summer has emerged that refers to the old issue with the 1989 AIDS Advocacy group. It was featured in the blog of POZ Magazine.

It says that the singer denies having said the previous remarks about the third sex. Summer mentioned in the letter that all the accusations made against her were unfair. She addressed in the letter too that she did not say that God was punishing the gay people who has the sexually transmitted disease. In fact, she even said that she is in good terms with her own gay friends and that she does not discriminate other gays to become her friends.

The letter was dated July 26th where she also explained that she was going through a lot of personal struggles and confusion at that time and can still remember how large her gay followers then.

Summer ended the letter with the famous Bible verse about love from the book of Corinthians.

Effects On Donna Summer's Career

On the same year that she sent the letter, Summer said she had no idea where all the quotes which allegedly came from her started. She added that her reference to AIDS was an innocent remark since she did not realize then what AIDS was.

At that time, her career was still in great suffering due to the remarks that she allegedly made. There were many gay group protests in most of her concert performances. But above it all, she remained a music legend that she was still hailed as the 'Queen of Disco' even after she passed away.
