Lady Gaga, who is well known for her strong stance, recently opened up about a bitter phase of her life where she was sexually assaulted at a young age.

Stefani Germanotta, better known by her stage name Lady Gaga, narrated an account of the assault during a New York Times panel talk.

“It changed me completely. I didn’t know how to even think about it, accept it, how to not blame myself or think it was my fault. It was something that really changed my life, it changed who I was completely, it changed my body, it changed my thoughts,” the “Born This Way” singer said.

The singer also revealed that she kept mum about the assault for seven years. Gaga talked about the physical pain that she had to suffer due to the assault and highlighted it because she feels that the pain of the victim is usually ignored in such cases.

“When you go through a trauma like that, it doesn’t just have immediate physical ramifications on you, for many people it has… trauma. When you re-experience it throughout the years after, it can trigger patterns in your body, physical distress,” Gaga added.

She also said that being abused, raped or traumatised not only leads to emotional and mental pain but can also end up in physical pain.

On the work front, Gaga released the video for her track “Till It Happens To You” in September. The singer has collaborated with Diane Warren for this song, which will be featured in the documentary “The Hunting Ground.” Gaga was accompanied by songwriter Diane Warren, writer and director Kirby Dick and director Kirby Dick at the event. “The Hunting Ground” underscores the incidents of rape in American university campuses.

Gaga, who got engaged to Taylor Kinney in February, opened up about being sexually assaulted at the age of 19, while talking to radio host Howard Stern last year. Songwriter Diane Warren too discussed about her being abused by a friend’s father as a child.
