The final season of the Fox singing competition series “American Idol” premiered on Jan. 6 with the auditions in Denver, Colorado and Savannah, Georgia. "Shades of Blue" star Jennifer Lopez returned in the judging panel with Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr.

Aside from returning as an “American Idol” judge, Lopez is also returning into acting in a scripted TV series. While walking the red carpet at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards, she revealed what it was like for her to watch the final season of “American Idol” and to be part of the cast of the new NBC crime drama series “Shades of Blue.”

“I was sobbing like two or three times,” Lopez told People about watching the most recent “American Idol” Season 15 episode. “I'm like, ‘I saw this already. Why am I crying?’ But that's the great thing about ‘Idol.’”

On Jan. 10, Sunday, Lopez served as one of the presenters at the Golden Globes 2016. Along with “Furious 8” actor Dwayne Johnson, the “American Idol” judge presented the award for Best Supporting Actress - Series, Miniseries or Television Film which was won by “The Affair” actress Maura Tierney.

For Lopez, “American Idol” is all about dreams, family, love and all the great things about life. She added that getting back to acting with “Shades of Blue” has been challenging and fulfilling since it is something she has not done in a while.

Created by Adi Hasak, “Shades of Blue” premiered on Jan. 7. It stars Lopez as Harlee Santos, the main character who is an NYPD detective forced to work in the FBI's anti-corruption task force while sorting out her own financial problems as a single mother.

One of Lopez’s “Shades of Blue” co-stars is Nigerian actor Dayo Okeniyi, who plays a rookie policeman. In an interview with NPR, the actor said it was "amazing" to be "shot" by Lopez in the new NBC series and it was the only thing people are texting him about.
