Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of 11-time world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., believes that his nephew wouldn’t have a hard time beating Manny Pacquiao on the much-anticipated May 2 showdown at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jeff says that Pacquiao is too predictable so it wouldn’t be long before Floyd gets the Filipino all figured out.

According to Jeff, Pacquiao often chases his opponents down with aggressive but overly predictable punching patterns. He said that the Filipino always throws the same combination of punches all the time.

“Manny is a very predictable fighter, he does 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2-3-4, that’s it, nothing else” Jeff said in a video uploaded on Mayweather Boxing Channel on March 7. “Other than that, he jumps in and out, that’s all.”

In Pacquiao’s recent fights, he has been doing the same fighting style over and over again, where he would habitually move forward and then withdraw backward. Pacquiao’s Mexican rival, Juan Manuel Marquez, was eventually able to read out Pacquiao’s style in their fourth meeting in 2012 and knocked out the Filipino cold in the sixth round.

Jeff said that Pacquiao is a “one-trick pony.” He added that Floyd should easily be able to figure out Pacquiao’s angles after around a couple of rounds because his nephew is a smart fighter, who has the ability to make mid-fight adjustments.

Much like the 47 fights that Floyd had dealt with, Jeff reckons that the Pacquiao fight shouldn’t be any different from them. He said that the fight is going to be easy and his undefeated nephew will emerge victorious off the fight.

Jeff has had a successful boxing career. He won 32 of his 47 professional fights, 10 of which were won via knockout. In 1994, Jeff defeated John Roby to win the International Boxing Organization junior lightweight title.

After retiring from the boxing, Jeff pursued a career as a trainer, following the footsteps of his brother Roger and Floyd Sr. Jeff has previously trained retired heavyweight champion Sultan-Ahmed Ibragimov and former unified junior featherweight champion (International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association Super titles), Celestino Caballero.

Elsewhere, the only press conference for the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight took place at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Both fighters were highly-cordial of one another but has chimed in strong remarks about the upcoming fight.

Floyd said that his game plan to be smart and treat the Pacquiao fight like all the 47 fights that he fought in his glorious boxing career. Floyd said that he is pushing himself to the limit because he wants to win the fight so bad.
