Marcos Maidana of Argentina wants to avenge the loss of a compatriot and wants Danny Garcia for his next fight. Maidana’s wish was confirmed by his manager, Sebastian Contursi. Garcia beat Argentine Lucas Matthysse in 2013 and is the current champion in the junior welterweight division.

“We are targeting Danny Garcia because that’s the biggest fight. He has something in his blood, the way he beat my fellow countrymen, Lucas Matthysse; he wants to take revenge for Lucas.” Contursi said in an interview with Fight Hype. “Marcos Maidana says he’s ready for that fight. He doesn’t want any interim fights or tune-ups at all. After fighting Broner and Mayweather twice, at this stage of his career, he’s ready to take down another name.”

Maidana, who has 35 wins against 5 losses in his pro career, has lost his last two fights both against undefeated American Floyd Mayweather in two bouts in 2014. Maidana hasn’t returned to the ring after the pair of losses to prepare for his wedding on April 2015, according to his manager, but will be back in action later in the year.

Garcia, who is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States, is set to face Lamont Peterson on April 11, 2015. Garcia, who is undefeated in 29 fights with 17 knockouts, is considered the top boxer in his weight class. He beat Matthysse via unanimous decision, 114-112, 114-112 and 115-111 in on Sept. 14, 2013 and added two more victories in 2014 over Mauricio Herrera and Rod Salka.

Before the loss to Mayweather, Maidana was considered one of the contenders in the welterweight division beating the likes of Adrien Broner, Josesito Lopez, Angel Martinez and Jesus Soto Karass in 2012 and 2013. However, the losses to Mayweather have hurt his stock in boxing as he fell outside the in rankings by ESPN and The Ring Magazine. Other fighters like Amir Khan, Timothy Bradley, Kell Brook, Keith Thurman are ahead of him in the rankings.
