Japanese Women

According to a government announcement, more than 1.2 million men and women who were born in 1994 marked the coming of age this year, an increase of approximately 50,000 from last year. The increase is also the first since 1995. Reuters

If the US had a film titled “The Last American Virgin” showed in the 1980s, Japanese filmmakers probably need to produce a millennial remake of the movie titled "The Last Japanese Virgin." However, unlike the American movie with stars a man who needed to lose his virginity, the Japanese film would feature a Japanese man who offers deflowering services to Japanese women in their 30s with no sexual experience.

The number of such women are growing, according to Nextshark.com. Their sheer number, due to women preferring careers over establishing families as well as the lack of interest in entering a relationship or even dating, is moving toward a crisis level since the Japanese population is rapidly ageing.

RocketNews24 calls these old virgins yaramiso. Japan’s National Institute of Population and Security Research estimates that about one-fourth of Japanese men between 30 and 34 are virgins, up from the 10 percent estimate of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, and Tourism research in 1995.

Meanwhile, many Japanese men who still want to get married no longer prefer virgins but ones who have some experience in bed. To solve this problem, a one-man operation runs the Lost Virgin Café which offers to give women the chance to lose their virginity.

Masato, the man behind the café, has a list of criteria for women above 30 to qualify. They must be in good health, not engaged, has no sexually transmitted diseases, with good hygiene and has no body odour. There are two requirements for females who meet the initial criteria. They pay the hotel fee of 10,000 yen and must take contraceptive in advance to prevent pregnancy, although Masato would wear a condom.

The 30-something Masato is a designer and Web site consultant. Lost Virgin Café says more than 200 Japanese women had lost their virginity with Masato’s help, while RocketNews24 says the waiting list is two to three months. He claims his service guarantees 100 percent that the women would not experience pain during their first sexual intercourse.

He compared older women who are still virgins to smartphones with no Internet connection. Masato believes “no man would want a ‘defective’ product.
