Unlike in 2014, the iPhone 7 release date this 2015 could be slightly delayed and Apple fans can blame the latest iPhone for that. Reports from Asia are indicating that bannered by the iPhone 6, Apple will ship out 60 million new iPhones by the end of June.

The forecast was provided in the wake of the latest results revealed by the tech giant – that it sold 61.5 million freshly-minted iPhones, assumingly dominated by the iPhone 6 and the phablet-size 6 Plus, en route to more than $13 billion of profits in the March quarter alone. According to DigiTimes, the Q1 figures could be easily replicated or even exceeded by Apple in the following quarter.

Obviously, the iPhone 6 series is setting new records not only for Apple but for the smartphone industry at large – a trend that could prompt the iPhone maker to do the unthinkable. “As the sales performance for the iPhone 6 series has been better than originally estimated, Apple may defer the launch of new iPhone models,” the Taiwanese publication reported, pointing to unnamed supply chain insiders as source of information.

Defying sales peak predictions

Apple’s rampaging numbers are in defiance of analysts’ observations that iPhones sales have peaked as will be shown by the company’s Q1 and Q2 2015 results. But Ming-chi Kuo of KGI Securities said in a report that Apple is witnessing unprecedented growth, in terms of quarterly and year over year performances.

In his recent note, Kuo predicted that after topping the market with its over 74 million iPhone sales in the December quarter Apple will start seeing declining sales yet will continue to tower over its rivals. For the March and June quarter, the iPhone maker will remain the market leader but will not breach the 60-million mark, the KGI analyst said.

But the tech giant proved the usually accurate Apple insider wrong. Apple romped its way to more than 61 million iPhone sales in the first three months of 2015 and is looking good to match or even exceed the figures by end of June. As DigiTimes has suggested, Apple’s current cash inflows, delivered mostly by the iPhone 6, might convince the company to go slow a bit and eventually delay the next iPhone arrival.

iPhone 7 touchdown

However, the same report did not drop a hint on when the iPhone 6 sequel will be unboxed if indeed there will be a slight delay on Apple’s plan. Normally, a new model is introduced in the last month of the third quarter of the year.

If the iPhone 7 release date this 2015 will indeed be considered for a push back, sterling sales performance of the iPhone 6 is not the only reason. As Kuo has forecasted, the device is again a major overhaul of its predecessor like the iPhone 6 was so letting it out a bit later seems to make sense. And the whole work could lead to a next iPhone debut either October or November this year.
