Apple's iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 release date is reportedly delayed due to a supplier's component shortage. Nissha, the main supplier of thin-film touch sensors for the Apple devices, revealed that the lack of production capacity caused the release date be pushed back to Q4 of 2013.

The touch sensors will be included in the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2. To meet the production demand, Nissha is required to increase their output by 30 percent by the end of first quarter of this year.

"Apple is not going to release iPads that costs more or don't get as good battery life as the current models. So, if the next iPad mini does end up getting slated for April, it could be a spec bump or have something other than Retina as a differentiator. Hopefully we'll know more soon," the web site iMore stated.

For the features and specifications of the Apple devices, past reports claim that the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 will have the Sharp Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) technology which allows the California-based company to build a much lighter and thinner tablet while maintaining the Retina display similar to the early iPad versions.

The iPad Mini 2 will most likely feature the Retina display with a 324ppi resolution which is higher compared to the 264ppi resolution of the iPad 4, a powerful dual core A7 processor, a 7.9-inch screen equipped with a 10-hour battery life, a FaceTime HD camera and an iSight camera with 1080p resolution on HD video recording.

The Q4 2013 release date for the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 could be Apple's approach to meet the increasing demand of new devices in the market especially around the holiday season. However, the technology giant is still not giving any comment on the numerous reports surrounding their upcoming tablets.
