Illumination Entertainment's musical comedy 'Sing' to hit cinemas on December 21
Illumination Entertainment, makers of hit animated comedy "Minions" and "Despicable Me," has released a trailer for an upcoming musical movie entitled "Sing." The film is scheduled to debut in international cinemas on December 21.
"Sing" will feature an all-star cast starring Matthew McConaughey, who appeared as iconic serial killer Leatherface in the 1994 release of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," and "Legally Blonde" lead actress Reese Witherspoon. Joining them in the lead cast are Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson, "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, "Kingsman" hero Taron Egerton, and "American Idol" winner Tori Kelly. Hollywood veteran actors Nick Kroll and John C. Reilly will also be playing lead roles.
The animated musical "Sing" is about a theatre owner's attempt at keeping his business alive. Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) is a koala who decides to host a singing contest with his best friend Eddie (John C. Reilly), who is a sheep. The winners of the audition are a housewife named Rosita (Reese Witherspoon), Mike (Seth MacFarlane) who is a little white mouse, Ash the porcupine (Scarlett Johansson), an elephant named Meena (Tori Kelly), and Johnny the gorilla (Taron Egerton).
Leslie Jones of the "Ghostbusters" reboot appears as Ms. Crawl, an elderly green iguana, who teaches Johnny how to play the piano. Actor-comedian Nick Offerman of "Parks and Recreation" voices Norman, Rosita's husband and father of their 25 piglets. Donald Trump impersonator Peter Serafinowicz lends his voice to Johnny's father.
On February 15, the official trailer was uploaded on YouTube. Since the time of upload, the video has over 5 million views and more than 13,000 upvotes.
According to Coming Soon, "Sing" is written and directed by Garth Jennings, who previously worked on "Son of Rambow" and "The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy." The movie is produced by Janet Healy and Chris Meledandri.
