Huawei Honor to get Marshmallow update in February 2016
The update will be available to owners of Honor 4C and Honor 4X
Major smartphone makers like Motorola, HTC and Sony revealed their lists of selected devices that will get the new Android version 6.0 (dubbed Marshmallow) soon after the announcement of the most recent version of Android operating system. Huawei confirmed its devices will get the sweet taste of Marshmallow.
Honor India tweeted that Honor, Huawei’s Indian subsidiary, said the Android Marshmallow update will start rolling-out in February 2016. The tweet said the update will be available to owners of Honor 4C and Honor 4X along with the mid-range handsets, Honor 6, Honor 6 Plus and Honor 7.
Before the massive OTA (over-the-air) roll out in February, owners of the Honor 7 can expect the Android 6.0 Marshmallow in beta form. The handset currently runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Huawei recently emerged as China`s top smartphone vendor for the first time, leaving behind Xiaomi.
Using its Weibo account, Huawei also announced the list of devices to receive the Android version 6.0 update in China, according to a report in Tech FirstPost. Owners of Ascend P8, Ascend P8max, Mate S, Mate 7, Ascend G7, Ascend G7 Plus and Ascend G8 will start getting update notifications anytime in this month.
The upgrade will considerably improve the user interface and performance of the Honor devices, said 9to5Google. For example, the Doze mode of Android version 6.0 along with Huawei’s own battery optimisation tools will bring incredible battery life to the devices. It’s still not clear if the company will improvise its EMUI software to be in sync with Marshmallow.
In the meantime, Huawei is expected to unveil its latest Kirin 950 chipset at an event tomorrow. It’s also teased the launch the Huawei Mate 8 on Nov. 26.
