'How I Met Your Mother' Season 9: Executive Producer Carter Bays Explains Wedding Weekend Format

Viewers are excited with the upcoming final season of "How I Met Your Mother" even though some are having a hard time grasping why the conclusion to the sitcom's story takes place over Barney and Robin's wedding weekend. Executive producer Carter Bays explained the reason behind their decision on the wedding weekend format in "How I Met Your Mother" Season 9.

Mr Bays revealed to Zap2It that he wanted to try "something new" with the HIMYM final season. Co-creator and producer Craig Thomas seems to agree and decided to stir things up with the story idea of officially introducing "The Mother" at Barney and Robin's wedding during and into a future view.

The executive producer even admitted the awareness that devoted HIMYM fans may have a hard time absorbing the format, but they could understand more once they begin to see what the writers came up with. "We wouldn't have devised this season if we weren't planning on seeing Ted and the mother together in some way. I wouldn't want to give it away, because it's a fun device, the way that we explore her life. But yeah - the whole 'it's going to be the weekend before the wedding' thing, I get the reaction," Carter Bays explained.

He further added: "If you haven't been in the writers' room with us cooking it up and you just hear that, you'd think 'They're just pushing back the end-zone line.' Like we're just waiting and it's going to be 23 episodes of spinning our wheels. I think it will be clear in the first two episodes."

Additionally, Carter Bays even joked about "How I Met Your Mother" Season 9 can be comparable to the time-travelling story in the TV series "Lost" where numerous features of the sitcom's timeline will be returned to.

The CBS spoiler details, promo photos and videos revealed the identity of "The Mother" or the future Mrs Ted Mosby. The exciting things that viewers expect from "The Mother" is how she finally meets Ted, her personality, her name and how she won the hearts of Ted's friends especially with Lily Aldrin whom she appears to have a conflict first in the released promo video.

The "How I Met Your Mother" gang returns for Season 9, the concluding season of the CBS sitcom, on Monday, September 23.
