To date, we don’t have the latest Android v6.0 on most of the smartphones and Google has already started teasing Android N, a major new update for the operating system. The search giant has hinted that the idea of the new version is under development.

Android N

By now, Google's next generation of mobile operating system have already stirred the Web with a bagful of speculations and predictions. Recently, in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), the team behind Pixel C revealed that they have already started the process of developing Android N . The session was attended by Andrew Bowers, director for consumer hardware, Glen Murphy, Director of UX for Android and Chrome, Kevin Tom, Product Manager for Pixel C and Puneet Kumar, Software Director for Pixel C.

Features

With Android N, Google seems to be keen on making multi-tasking easier for all its users. The team responded to questions regarding Pixel C and Android operating system. The update may mean inclusion of quite a few other features as well.

According to Tech Times, the team confirmed that Google is working on ‘split screen’ and ‘multi-window’ functionalities like Apple’s newly launched iPad Pro. This would be the first version of Android with a standard multitasking support for all. However, Samsung has been offering the feature in its high-end Galaxy devices for quite some time.

Release date

According to Gizmodo, Google will not introduce Android N at Google I/O 2016. The company will only come up with the Developer Preview of the software by June at its annual developers conference.

Google is expected to release the official name of the next generation of Android operating system by summer 2016. The new v7.0 of the OS is tipped for a launch in October 2016.

Just like Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, Android 7.0 will come pre-installed in any Nexus branded device that Google will launch. Following the successful Nexus 6P, Google is rumoured to yet again collaborate with Huawei for making the next-gen Nexus 6 (2016).
