The matriarch of all the talent hunt shows “American Idol” is in its final season and the race to become the final winner of the show has been shown green signal with the Denver audition that aired on Wednesday. It is not just the audience who will miss the show on screen after its stint of 15 years but the judges are equally sad about the show coming to an end.

Harry Connick, Jr., who has been judging and mentoring the participants of the show since its ninth season, has opened up about his feeling towards his long association with the show during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

On being asked about his favorite Idol performance ever, Harry said that Kelly Clarkson’s performance on “A Moment Like This” that she delivered after winning the show was his favourite. Talking about his earliest memory of the show, Harry revealed that he had a lot of fun while mentoring for the first time on “American Idol.”

Harry also opened up about his bonding with fellow judges – Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez. Talking about his feelings regarding the “American Idol The Farewell Season,” Harry got emotional.

“It’s an amazing show that I think is gonna leave an incredible legacy. I’m really honored to have been a part of it in the small way that I have,” Harry said.

“My only hope is that we can bookend the first year — with Kelly winning and becoming an international superstar — and find someone who can make a really big name for themselves. I hope we’re able to end with a bang,” he added.

On the other hand, “American Idol’s” host Ryan Seacrest too thinks that Carrie Underwood is the biggest star from the show. Carrie participated in the fourth edition of the show and went on to win the finale.

“American Idol The Farewell Season,” starts on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
