Come April 18, fans can finally access the multiplayer beta for “Gears of War 4.” Players who have purchased the “Gears of War: Ultimate Edition” are already set for access to the beta.

Developer The Coalition has provided a glimpse of how the beta will go, starting with how access will be available. According to DualShockers, codes will only be sent on April 18, and no predownloads will be necessary.

Since it is a beta, and the developer is trying to make sure that the servers can handle the load, The Coalition’s Rod Fergusson had stated that they will be rolling out the codes in waves to those who are eligible. This means that not everyone who is eligible for the “Gears of War 4” beta will be able to get access at the same time.

Of course, this is only for players who already have the sure access via the ultimate edition. Everyone else who want to try the beta will need to wait until April 25 to access it. The only thing needed then is an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

In the meantime, fans can check out a 10-seconder clip, which shows how players can do execution style kills using the Dropshot weapon. It’s a gruesome approach to killing, sure, but it’s not common to see a weapon launch the body after the kill, as seen in the aptly titled “Lock, Load and Launch” video.

GameSpot stated that the new mechanic of launching the dead across the map is suggestive of possibly launching them at enemies as well. That’s a unique way to fight, and a good advantage, especially when fighting against several enemies at different ranges.

The character who uses the Dropshot weapon is Kait, a new character for “Gears of War 4.” The Dropshot is quite the powerful weapon. It will fire an aerial mine that can hover over the map on a straight line.

The player will have control over how far and for how long the aerial mine will be traveling over the map, and once the player lets go, it will spin towards the ground. Once it hits the target, it will drill and explode, taking anything nearby with it.
