“The Flash” Season 2 Episode 15 finally revealed the man behind the mask. The episode, titled “King Shark,” which aired on Feb. 23, revealed that Zoom was Jay Garrick (Ted Sears) all along.

In the final scenes of the episode, Zoom took off his mask after killing Jay Garrick and shocked fans that it was also the same man behind the mask.

“Zoom’s identity has been revealed: He is Hunter Zolomon, a.k.a. Jay Garrick,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. He continued that the connection between the characters will further be unveiled after the break. Kreisberg stated that they wanted to close the previous episodes with a huge reveal, in the same manner that they did when Season 1 Episode 9 ended. During that episode, it was shown that Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) was the person in the yellow suit. Now, Zoom’s identity was finally presented to viewers.

There were several fan theories about Zoom’s identity in the past episodes, until the show finally went with the story that Zoom’s alter-ego in the comics and Earth-1 doppelganger was actually Hunter Zolomon. Fans were still surprised at how Hunter could have come to Earth-1 without any powers and travel through the two dimensions. The next episodes will provide more answers to the puzzling revelation.

Notably, while the original Wells was absent, the team depended on Hunter Zolomon as a leader. Eobard Thawne, who posed as Wells, developed Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) to become The Flash so that he can use the latter to return home. The executive producer said that the betrayal was even bigger than before, making everyone feel guilty about the current situation. Team Flash allowed Zolomon to enter the core of their group. Jay was able to manipulate all of them through their emotions.

There are speculations on who the man in the iron mask could be. Previously, the man was also caged beside Barry and sent him a message which translated into “Jay.” Kreisberg, however, did not share his identity, saying that it will be a whole new mystery.

“The Flash” Season 2 will return on Mar. 22 on The CW in the US and on Fox in Australia.
