The "Fifty Shades of Grey" film adaptation is set for a summer 2014 release which means casting should be scheduled anytime this year. However, Universal Studios, Focus Features and E.L. James had confirmed that casting would take a while to happen. Yet, this hasn't stopped fans from naming potential stars set to play the lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. One name leading the bunch is Ian Somerhalder but tabloids claim he won't accept the role for the big risk it may cast on his relationship.

"Vampire Diaries" star, Ian Somerhalder is currently the fan favourite for the role of Christian Grey. Judging by the polls, Ian has a big sure-win to be officially cast if the odds continue to sway in his favour. The big question of course is who would play opposite Ian Somerhalder as Anastasia Steele.

Fans of the "Vampire Diaries" eventually decided that on screen and off screen beau, Nina Dobrev should play Ana. Yet, Nina had claimed that the idea wasn't such a good one given fans would overlap their roles in "Vampire Diaries" into "Fifty Shades."

"I don't know if that's a good idea. I think it's best for any of the actors on Vampire Diaries to kind of do their own things ... and create new characters. And as much as you try when you shoot a movie, if it's two of the same people, the fans will always see you as ... they'll see you as Elena and they'll see him as Damon if we do the film together," explained Nina in an interview with The Celebrity Café.

Apart from the obvious overlapping of characters between "Vampire Diaries" and "Fifty Shades of Grey", another problem that could pose a threat is Ian's relationship with Nina Dobrev. Somerhalder getting cast as Christian would skyrocket his growing fame. This would eventually lead to tabloids creating a mix of rumours that could potentially wreck Ian's relationship with Nina Dobrev.

In fact, a few tabloids claim Nina Dobrev isn't at all excited about Ian starring as Christian Grey in the film adaptation. More so, Nina has turned into the green-eyed monster with the talks of Ian starring opposite "Twilight's" Ashley Greene or "Pretty Little Liars" Lucy Hale.

Should Ian Somerhalder risk his relationship with Nina Dobrev for the highly-sought out role of Christian Grey or leave it to another actor worthy of the role?
