Plagued with the worst luck, it looks like "Silent Hills" fans never seem to get a break. The highly anticipated and well received sequel to the survival horror franchise was unceremoniously cancelled in the wake of the messy split between the IP owner Konami and "Metal Gear" franchise creator Hideo Kojima. As of April 29, Konami's "P.T." or "Playable Teaser" has been taken off the PlayStation network and is no longer available for download. As expected, enterprising folks have taken to eBay auctions to capitalise on this development.

The absence of "P.T." on PSN has led to a huge demand-supply gap, which is now being leveraged by owners of PlayStation 4 consoles who already downloaded a copy. These individuals listed their consoles for auctions at ridiculously high mark-ups thanks to the game's newfound rarity. VG247 reports that some eBay listings have "P.T." preloaded PS4 consoles being quoted for $1500. Some U.S. based eBay sellers have set the starting bid at $1000, with the buy-it-now price fixed at a whopping $1800.

However, all is not lost for those who downloaded and then deleted the game. Gamespot reports that those who installed the game before its April 29 takedown can download it again at any time. Unfortunately, those who had not done so have no choice but to turn to these eBay listings.

Having said that, it does not make sense for someone who did not download "P.T." for the many months it was available to be willing to pay more than $1000 for it. This logic is evident in the eBay listings as well since most of them stand at zero bids as of this writing.

Then again, it would be foolhardy to doubt the willingness of eager games to splurge for rare games. After all, The Guardian points out that iPhones pre-installed with "Flappy Bird" games were being bid at anywhere between $300 and $90,000.

The disappointment of gamers at the cancellation is not surprising. "P.T." served as an elaborate and chilling reveal for the upcoming "Silent Hill" reboot, dubbed as "Silent Hills." The game was slated to be created by the dream team of Hideo Kojima and "Hellboy," "Pan's Labyrinth," and "Pacific Rim" director Guillermo Del Toro, along with "The Walking Dead's" Norman Reedus in a central role.

After a long list of terrible sequels since the last original game, "Silent Hill 4: The Room," fans finally had the hope of playing a worthy sequel to the horror franchise. However, the recent string of troubles and decisions surrounding the messy split between Konami and iconic videogame director Hideo Kojima resulted in the project being cancelled and the subsequent takedown of "P.T." from PSN.
