The first official trailer of “The Circle,” starring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks, hints at the feeling of living under constant surveillance. A young girl, played by Emma Watson, starts working at a technology company known as the Circle. The role played by Tom Hanks is that of a technological visionary in the company.

A sci-fi thriller, the movie is based on a novel of the same name by David Eggers. In the beginning of the trailer, Watson’s character talks confidently about her aspirations in a job interview. She reveals that she is scared of “unfulfilled potential.” By the end of the trailer things start falling apart for the female lead.

The lack of privacy in the company and in the lives of people creates a sense of paranoia. Tom Hank’s character says, “Knowing is good but knowing everything is better.”

He talks about a product of the company called SeeChange. It is a small camera and invades into the privacy of people. Hanks’ character further says, “We will see it all.”

“The Circle” is written and directed by James Ponsoldt. Describing Watson’s character to USA Today Ponsoldt said, “She is us. You will walk out of the theater and have a serious look at yourself and how you’re living your life.”

Other notable actors in the movie are John Boyega, Karen Gillan and Patton Oswalt. A movie by EuroCorp, “The Circle” is set to release on Apr. 28, 2017.
