Crown Princess Mary of Denmark looked stunning in a dark blue floor-length gown as she made an appearance with her husband Crown Prince Frederick for the annual New Year banquet at the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen on Friday. She chose to recycle one of her old dresses, but with some changes. The Tasmanian-born princess previously wore the confection for the Bambi Awards in 2014.

Mary’s evening gown is a custom version of Danish couture designer Jesper Hovring’s Autumn Winter 2014 collection. The original gown showcased on the runway featured an off-shoulder design. The 43-year-old’s midnight blue confection featured velvet fabric with the bottom half embellished with delicate sequins.

It was altered with long sleeves and also featured a belt-like design which was cinched at the waist. The gown showed off Mary’s tall and svelte frame. The mother-of-four’s long tresses were styled into a chic up ‘do’.

She accessorised with an antique diamond and ruby-encrusted tiara and paired her outfit with her Knight of the Order of the Elephant collar, Hello reports. Mary also opted for matching drop earrings in diamond and ruby and two brooches. Her flawless make-up consisted of pink lipstick, deep red manicure and subtle smoky eyes.

The Danish princess completed her look with a pair of midnight blue high heels and matching box clutch. Frederik was dressed in complete Danish military regalia and carried his ceremonial sabre for the traditional event. The couple and the couple were greeted with applause from well-wishers as they exited the car and made their way up to the castle doors.

The VIP gala was hosted by Frederick’s parents Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik . Frederik’s younger brother Prince Joachim was also present along with his wife Princess Marie. This was the first royal engagement that the couple attended since returning from Australia, where they spent Christmas, The Daily Telegraph reports. For the first time in five years, the entire family returned to Mary’s homeland to visit the princess’ family and friends.
