Most fitness trackers are wearables which allow the user to monitor various health indicators such as pulse, heart rate and steps taken. A new tracker from Naked Labs is a smart mirror packed with sensors which takes a 3D scan of the body on a rotating scale.

Using Intel RealSense 3D Depth Sensors, the Naked Mirror scans the body to create a custom 3D body image sent to the Naked companion app on the owner’s mobile devices. It shows the pounds lost or muscles gained which helps motivate people to continue their physical fitness regimen.

That’s because seeing one’s physical progress, such as love handles reduced or six packs develop on the abs helps people go on with their exercise routines, says Farhad Farahbakshian, co-founder and CEO of Naked Labs. Around 60 percent of people who go to the gym eventually drop out.

Although most of them are very motivate to make a change when they begin, after six weeks, many become disappointed for failing to see results as they envision. “Either their expectations were not set appropriately or they are using the wrong metrics and the wrong devices to measure their health and fitness,” Wareable quotes Farahbakshian.

He recommend that people who would use the mirror must be naked to accurately pinpoint the changes on the body. For the bashful types, they could wear skintight or minimal clothing, Farahbakshian adds.

To help the user visualise progress, the heatmap highlights body parts where there are muscle gain or fat loss. This would allow the creation of a custom time-lapse of the body to document progress.
