Consistently high readings of heartbeat on Fitbit of his wife led a man to ask fellow Redditors if they have similar experiences. A Reddit user who uses the name “Thatwasunpleasant” suggested to David Trinidad that the fitness markers could indicate his wife is pregnant.

The reason why “Thatwasunpleasant” made a good “diagnosis” is that she was in the same situation as Trinidad’s wife. She also noticed elevated readings even if her heart was at rest. A check with the doctor showed she was pregnant, reports The New York Post.

Trinidad’s wife did the same thing, and the doctor confirmed she is expecting a child. The incident demonstrated how accurate Fitbit is in monitoring heart rate, burned calories and other fitness markers, although it also showed the need to have a medical expert diagnose unusual readings.

Another instance when Fitbit showed unusual fitness markers, due to a human event, was in January when Koby Soto’s girlfriend dumped him at noon. It immediately registered as high heart rate that Soto attributes to his broken heart.

Mirror reports that 10 percent of Fitbit owners, surveyed by LaptopsDirect.co.uk, monitored their heart rates while having sex. But they did not tell their partners that they were recording the spiked heart beats caused by a romp in bed.

The survey found that 79 percent of respondents considered sex as a form of exercise which is why some men look forward to horizontal workouts of a sexual nature with a partner. About 9 percent event prolong the sex to get more exercise.

Mark Kelly, marketing manager of LaptopsDirect.co.uk, which commissioned the survey, says it is understandable, especially for Fitbit owners to be curious how their hearts thump during sex. After all, “Calories burned during sex are just as valid as those torched in the gym,” he points out.
