Looks remain an important factor in being physically attracted to another person. This is especially true for a future groom or bride who will become a lifetime partner and whose face a spouse will see each morning.

With that mindset, a Chinese groom was so disappointed to discover on his wedding day that his future wife is ugly. The wedding was just arranged by their parents, so Kang Hu saw his bride, Na Sung, for the first time during the wedding ceremony, reports Yahoo.

Kang said that marrying an ugly bride would be bad for his image. He apologised to everyone and left the wedding ceremony amid the anger in the two families and wedding guests.

The story does not end with the runaway groom. Kang went to the lake in Shiyan City in Hubei province. The 33-year-old man was spotted attempting to drown himself.

A witness, Quan Tsui, took photos of the rescue. Quan said Kang was fully clothed and floating face down in the river. Quan said he was unconscious and thought Kang was dead.

The police officer who arrived did not even take off his jacket but dove immediately into the water to save Kang. He managed to drag the man to the wall, but said he knew he does not have the strength to get the victim out of the water, so he just waited for the fire brigade.

A fireman tied a rope around Kang’s chest, pulled him out of the water and pumped his chest. Kang was rushed to the hospital and is now in stable condition. He is expected to fully recover, but marrying someone whom he has not met at all would probably something he would never do again.
