“My Kitchen Rules” went to a wedding on Tuesday. For the second time in a row, QLD mates Rob and Dave were thrust into the Sudden Death match, while VIC mother and son Rose and Josh were awarded the People’s Choice.

For the Wedding Challenge, the nine teams were divided into three, with each group assigned a course meal. The People’s Choice awardee would be chosen by the chef bride and groom and their guests, and the two weakest teams would be chosen by judges Pete Evans and Colin Fassnidge. There was no bad dish for this challenge. In fact, everyone delivered quality dishes. Still, there should be two teams that must be sacrificed for the Sudden Death round. Those two teams were Rob & Dave and Jane & Emma.

Entrée

Ash & Camilla: Confit of Ocean Trout with Whipped Caviar and Ginger Broth

Shunning the high temp oven, the VIC socialites devised an ingenious way to cook their fish. Instead of the conventional roast, Ash boiled oil and poured over the trout. This proved to be a clever idea. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the judges loved it. As Camilla noted, they haven’t had a bad critique yet.

Drasko & Bianca: Duck Breast with Beetroot, Cherry and Chocolate

Communication has been a problem between Drasko and Bianca since the start. Drasko refused to listen to his partner, who had been trying so hard to make him function. This was noticed by the judges, with Colin berating Drasko for concentrating on one ingredient of the dish while leaving Bianca to struggle with the other elements.

While Colin and Pete found bits of elements on the plate that were superfluous, the bride and the groom lauded the perfectly cooked duck.

Will & Steve: Chicken Liver Parfait with Raisin Purée and Fennel Lavash

The English blokes once again impressed the judges with their kitchen skills. The duo managed to create a “perfect” and “bold” dish. However, what the judges thought was different from what some of the guests liked. There were those who felt the liver taste came too strong.

Main

Eva & Debra: Dukkah-Crusted Lamb with Sweet Pumpkin Purée and Mint Yoghurt

The show’s highest ever-scoring team has done it again with a perfect dish. For the first time as well, the WA workmates didn’t cook Asian food.

Kat & Andre: Pork Fillet with Orange and Fennel Slaw and Potato Rösti

Feeling adventurous, the now-married couple served a dish that they invented themselves. The judges loved it. Also, it was the bride’s favourite dish. Unfortunately, the bride wasn’t the only one who voted for the People’s Choice.

Rob & Dave: Butter-Poached Eye Fillet with Cauliflower Purée and Mushroom Sauce

Barely surviving the last elimination, Rob and Dave were hoping to bag the People’s Choice this time. But just when everything appeared to be perfect and on time, their cauliflower purée just burst from the blender, forcing them to make another batch.

The plating wasn’t the most beautiful the boys have produced, but at least they managed to cook the fillet well. But while everyone thought it was a good dish, no one said it was anything special. As Pete and Colin said, it didn’t have a “wow” factor at all.

Their dish wasn’t the type to serve in a festive event such as weddings. Pete called it “underwhelming,” adding that he could have it on any given, regular night. As Rob and Dave have guessed it, they were sent to the Sudden Death round again.

Dessert

Rose & Josh: White Chocolate Custard with Mixed Berry Compote and Macadamia Crumb

A few blunders in the kitchen didn’t stop Rose and Josh from delivering the best dish of the day. It took them a little while in getting their plates out, but the wait was all worth it. The first ever mother-and-son team won People’s Choice.

“It was a standout dish,” Colin said, adding his praises for 18-year-old Josh for successfully cooking in a wedding at such a young age.

Carol & Adam: Citrus Celebration

The newlyweds served a festive-looking plate that delivered what it promised: a celebration. It was light and summery and just “delicious.”

Jane & Emma: Ricotta Cheesecake with Raspberry and Blood Orange

The praises they got for their cheesecake weren’t enough to cancel out the criticism they received for the cake’s biscuit. The VIC “polar opposites” created a tasty dessert, but weren’t able to perfect the technique in making it.

Despite Jane being touted as the Dessert Queen, they haven’t received any overwhelmingly positive critique for any of the desserts they have served yet. There was always something missing or wrong with their plate. Pete said they played it safe. It was a nice dish, but not great for a cooking competition.

Together with Rob and Dave, Jane and Emma were forced to go to Sudden Death.
