Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho disclosed that he would not make any movement to his squad in January.

The Portuguese mentor is apparently happy with the way his charges are performing, so far, despite losing their first ever match this season in the Premier League in the hands of Newcastle United on matchday 15.

"We have a short squad but we've got good players, some younger, some older, but the squad is very, very good," he told talkSPORT.

"Our project is to start and finish the season with the same group of players, so there will be nobody to leave and nobody to come in either."

Chelsea are now only 3 points clear off second-placed Manchester City, after dropping 5 in their last eight games.

Meanwhile, Mourinho hailed key playmaker Cesc Fabregas for putting on another fine performance against Derby County, as they went on to beat the Championship side in the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup on Wednesday (AEST).

"He's playing so well for us and what I like especially - more than his quality - is the person," he said.

"He's a professional. A big player like him, a world champion, coming here to play a Capital One Cup match and play the way he did - this is the kind of attitude I want from my players."

"All of them were very professional so I'm so, so happy with that, because sometimes people don't realise how difficult it is to play against Championship teams."
