Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney opined that his side must have the belief that they will be able to go all the way to the top this season amid initial struggles.

The Red Devils are appearing to have picked up the slack in recent outings, winning six straight games in the Premier League and currently occupying third place, which was not the case when they started out the ongoing campaign. They were at the bottom-half of the table and were finding it difficult to secure victories despite having a quality-laden squad.

Nevertheless, Rooney is optimistic that if they will be able to carry their good form onto the second-half of the term, the top-flight trophy might find its way back to Old Trafford again.

"It is still early days and we are getting better and better, the results are coming and the gap to the top is only eight points with a lot of games to go," he told the Daily Star.

"I think Christmas is going to be a very important time for us."

"If we can keep picking up points and winning games, then hopefully the other teams will drop points and we can be right in there going into the second half of the season."

"I think we have to believe we can win the title."

"If we can win four games and the others have one bad result then there is nothing there."
