“Big Little Lies” fans may have to keep their own version of ending for good. The show’s creator said he has his reason for not doing season 2 anymore.

The seven-episode show wrapped up last Sunday and it left viewers drawing their own conclusion on who murdered who. Now, fans are hoping that there will be a second instalment. The show's bosses had previously declared that the show is good for one run only.

Reese Witherspoon (Madeline) and Nicole Kidman (Celeste) are keen to do another season. During a Facebook Live edition, the actresses admitted that they are open on the idea of season 2.

"We've been talking with the writer, and you guys should Facebook (author) Liane Moriarty and tell her how much you want to see ‘Big Little Lies 2.’ That would be good. She's thinking about ideas, and so we would love to hear ideas,” Witherspoon said in a Facebook Live over the weekend.

However, director Jean-Marc Vallée has already settled for just one season. “The detective doesn't want to let go and that's how we finish that. And we think, ‘Did they do the right thing? What will happen?' Now it's up to the audience and their imagination to figure out. To do a season two, I'm not for it,” he told the Hollywood Reporter.

Vallée admitted that he would love to work with Witherspoon, Kidman and the rest of the cast again but insistent that the show is a limited deal only. “‘Big Little Lies 2?’ Nah. The end is for the audience to talk about. Imagine what you want to imagine and that's it. We won't give you a season two because it's so good like this. Why spoil it?” he added.

The HBO show ended with a mysterious death. Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) was seen pushing Celeste’s husband Perry (Alexander Skarsgård) down the stairs after he publicly admitted that he beat his wife and had raped Jane (Shailene Woodley).

During the police investigation, the women confirmed there was a fight with Perry but claimed that what happened to him was an accident. While one of the detectives is suspicious, the police cannot prove anything as the women have the same story. The show concluded with the five women and all their children enjoying a day in the beach.

Amid questions at the ending, episode 7 earned a new rating high for HBO. The finale episode drew 1.9 million viewers which was up by 34 percent from the previous episode 1.4 million, Deadline noted. “Big Little Lies” last episode also topped the three-week streak of ratings highs for the show.
