“Better Call Saul” season 3 will begin in a few short weeks and viewers might be able to finally watch Jimmy McGill transform into Saul Goodman. In a recent interview, actor Bob Odenkirk and creator Vince Gilligan discussed how it might just happen.

“There are clearly a few things in Jimmy’s life that he loves a lot. And Kim is one of those people. And obviously his brother’s respect is something that drives him and pulls him,” Odenkirk told Eurweb. “So when I think about Saul, I think about a guy who probably doesn’t have those things in his life.” The actor then went on to rhetorically asked why Saul would not have someone in his life like Kim anymore or really anyone that would have pushed him to be good person.

Creator Vince Gilligan then chimed in and admitted that the “Better Call Saul” team had initially thought the writing of the show would be easier than it actually has been. He went on to describe Jimmy as a “decent” person who is always acting “for the best of reasons.” But then he also rhetorically asked, “How does he become Saul Goodman?”

Gilligan continued to share that, even as the showrunner, he eventually began to question how the transition will take place. “But I have to say, this season, as it progressed, I started to understand it a little bit better,” he confirmed. “It takes a lot of pressure to turn a lump of coal into a diamond, and it turns out a hell of a lot of pressure to turn a good man -- or least a decent one like Jimmy McGill -- into Saul Goodman.”

How the events will unfold were not completely discussed, but it can be gathered from Odenkirk and Gilligan’s statements that something big is about to unfold and it will happen soon enough. It is likely that audiences will finally see the link between the man they knew in “Breaking Bad” and the man they have learned to respect in “Better Call Saul.”

“Better Call Saul” season 3 will debut on April 10 on US network AMC. Australian audiences can stream the same on Stan. The upcoming season will also feature an old face as actor Giancarlo Esposito has joined the cast to reprise his role as Gus Fring.
