Ben Stiller Regrets Not Mending Relationship With Joan Rivers Before Comedian Passed Away

Ben Stiller said he is well aware of the late Joan Rivers’ dislike of him even though he does not really know why and he personally does not have an issue with her. Unfortunately, the actor said that their contentious relationship was not given a chance to be repaired.

Speaking with Howard Stern, Stiller said he heard of Joan Rivers’ dislike for him. He said that as a result, he had a contentious relationship with the late comedian, that never got resolved before she passed away. For his part though, Stiller asserted that he has no beef against Rivers. He said he never interacted with the former “Fashion Police” host for him to have anything against her. This is why he does not even know what it is about him that Rivers did not like. “I didn’t understand why she didn’t like me -- I mean I can understand that someone doesn’t like me, whatever … You’re allowed to have your opinion, but she had a thing because she was friends with my parents,” he said.

Stern then told Stiller that the reason behind Rivers’ contempt is because he offended her by ignoring her at a red carpet event, but Stiller said he could not remember the said instance. Stiller however does not deny the possibility of such happening. He told Stern that he feels regretful that the issue was never sorted out and that they did not do anything to resolve their relationship, especially since his parents were really close to her.

Meanwhile, he also shared to Vulture another regret of his. Asked what he regretted about his own life when he was in his 20s and 30s, he said he should not have rejected the chance to be the director of “Good Will Hunting.” He said that he could remember receiving the script for “Good Will Hunting” from his agent and thinking he did not know Affleck and Damon. He also did not know why they were part of the project so he turned it down.

Even with these regrets though, the actor said that he does not want to change anything. He said all his decisions led him to his current position.
